Finally, reconnect all the cables and power cords that you disconnected and your Wii U should be ready to go. Once you have finished cleaning, replace the heat sink cover and all the screws to the back casing, making sure that the back panel is tightly sealed. Use compressed air to clean any dust, debris or other contaminants from the components. With the fan and heat sink cover removed, you can now easily access the memory, hard drive and optical drive of the system. Be sure to also remove any thermal paste inside the cover. If your system contains a fan and heat sink cover, carefully unscrew the screws holding the cover in place and remove it. Once the screws are removed, gently lift the back casing away from the body of the console. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, you’ll need to carefully remove all the screws from the sides and bottom. You should also make sure to ground yourself by touching a metal component, such as the Wii U’s aluminum case, before you start to avoid any static electricity shocks. Make sure to disconnect any cables or power cords before you start unscrewing the back. ![]() To open your Wii U to clean it, you’ll need to first remove the back casing, then remove the heat sink cover and any other components that need to be disconnected in order to access the inner parts. Your Wii U should now be free of dust, and is ready to be used again. Once the outside has been thoroughly cleaned, reattach the cables and plug the Wii U back into the power source. Make sure to avoid getting any water in any of the ports as this can damage the device. Use a damp cloth, and lightly wipe all around the device. After the dust has been removed from the inside and outside of your Wii U, it’s time to clean the exterior with a microfiber cloth. Again, be sure to do this in short bursts and do not spray any specific area for too long. Next, blow compressed air around all of the components inside the Wii U. ![]() Make sure to do this in short bursts, and do not spray directly in one spot for too long as this could damage the device. Spray all around the vents, ports, and crevices of the device and move the can back and forth. Then, grab a can of compressed air and get to work on the outside of the Wii U. First, unplug your Wii U from its power source and remove the cables.
